Do you guys think the "trail cred" of the H2 has been railroaded by its adoption by the hip-hop crowd and the associated 26-inch wheels, spinners, and generous amounts of chrome accessories? Do you still think of it as a legit off-road vehicle, or as just a rap star car now?

No and No...

While I don't think the rap crap has hurt the 'trail cred' of the H2... I don't necessarily believe it had a whole lot of that to begin with... soo....

Yeah, that freakin' thing is too wide. I've never been that impressed with it, but I've talked to other guys that think it's amazing. Honestly, if you're a hard-core Hummerista, and want to go off-roading, it seems the H3 would probably be a better choice. Especially now with the Alpha package with the V-8.

Believe it or not, but that's the only thing with the H2. It really is wide, but it still can handle the Rubicon, and plenty of hard trails. I interned with GM, and worked with Rod Hall Hummer Racing, and we took these Hummers out. The H2 is far better than the H3, without a doubt. The H2 is just better at handling the terrain. And if you think about these H2's with 24 inch rims, it only means that later on there will be a bunch of used H2's with no off-road miles on them. The prices are already dropping, in Arizona you can get a used H2 for 30-35G's. All highway miles driven by soccer moms.

The upcoming 4.5 Duramax option has me intrigued, but I still don't think I'd want to personally own one of these big bruisers. I was a little disappointed when I saw that the H3 had rear leaf springs. I think if they were to put rear coils on that one, it would make it a lot better off-road. not that it's a slouch now, but it would just give it that edge in articulation and control.

Most of the modifications these "hip-hoppers" do is pretty cosmetic stuff. Sound systems, upholstery, video screens, paint jobs. So if said owner doesn't care his custom $10,000 paint job would get scratched on the Rubicon trail, I say more power to him or her. Plus, if their H2 gets stuck in the mud or snaps a driveshaft on a rock, they will have plenty of entertainment options available. Maybe while waiting for the tow back to civilization they can watch "8 mile" on the DVD monitors.

Ha this is a funny thread but any ways it dosn't matter what the rap stars do to their hummers, the h2 are still pretty decent off road, therei just as wide as a 3/4 ton chevy, they have way better ground clearence and 35 inc tires from the factory along with 3/4 ton chevy drivetrain which is pretty stout, the only dissapointing fact is that they have torsion bars up front!!! What is hummer thinking, this is the age of coilovers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
