I own a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 2-wheel drive with a V6 and a 5-speed stick.

I am interested in getting the truck lifted for appearance purposes and for driving on dirt roads when I go pheasant hunting in the fall.

I'm not sure how much lift I need, what type of lift kit to buy and who I should bring my truck to for the installation.

Where are you located? there are 4wheel parts stores all across the nation and im sure they could hook u up with a fabtech, cst, superlift....the list of lift kit companies goes on and on.  U probably want to look into a 4-6 inch lift and to run 33 to 35 inch tires on your rig  

Thanks for the info. I used to live in Burbank, California. There was a 4Wheel Parts store on Victory Boulevard in Burbank, but that location was closed in 2004. I now live in New Jersey and am looking for someone local. Any suggestions?

Can't help you with a local shop (since I'm on the other side of the nation) but I would suggest a 3" spindle lift and some 33's. With that V-6 you don't really want to go too big with the tires unless you plan to regear at some point. A spindle lift will be a cheap and effective means to fit the tires you want.  

Yeah, big wheels & tires on a V-6 isn't a great idea unless you re-gear. I'd definitely recommend it.
