easier to replace a clutch than an complete auto trans. but its sux in rush hour. i personally prefer standard on the trail easier to keep engine in the power band when needed. i guess it depends on what your goal with the jeep is if your keeping it stock or lifting it with bigger tires and your preference. will your family be driving it as well ?  all play a part in the desision. my wife dosent like to drive my truck and i like it that way.

It's all personal preference. I like autos in trail/desert rigs and manuals in performance cars, but that is just me.

If you're going with the 4 banger, then get the manual. The 6 can go either way, just depends on personal preference. If you plan on lifting it and running larger tires the auto will not shift at the right time. I have the 2.5 in mine and 4 inches of lift w/33's. I used to shift at about 2000 and now I have to shift at 2800-3000.

i prefer the manual. automatic is the way to go if you plan to  play in DEEP mud, if you need to grab a lower gear in the manual yer gonna have a case of the no goes. some friends of mine had this issue trying to cross a deep hole. for normal trail running a manual is great. rock crawling, you might wanna go with the auto. it all depends on what your plans are
