brazil imports no oil. why? ethanol. it can be made from so many different crops such as corn sugar beets sugar cane soy beans, etc. the us gov wont allow anyone to import ethanol from brazil. theres no good reason not to. citgo is venezuelen (idk how to spell) and the dictator of that country constantly voices his hatred from the US.
the thing is we have oil in our country. wtf are we doing going over seas for everything. we should provide for ourselves and let the rest of the world do w.e they want. all most of the countries wanna do is mouth off how were the devil and they hate us. we have oil in alaska and texas. but tons in alaska. all we need to do is pump outa there and build a refinery there and we could be paying 50 cents a gallon. but no the oil companys want to make 600Billion off us. prices wont ever go down. the government is being payed off by any industry making huge profits i.e. banking, financial, oil to not interfere.

sorry i havent slept i forgot a bit in the first post. but we have millions of acres to produce ethanol easily.
another point. theres a mechanic with an eight grade education that can give a lincoln 100 miles to the gallon along with hummers 60mpg. he uses 90% gm parts. popular science or mechanics did the article on him.

Conspiracy theory, nothing more. Where are the facts to back any of this up?

Fist off, you would have to turn half the US into a sugar can/corn field to produce enough ethanol to reduce our daily usage by 5% (not 100% mind you), second, enviormental regulations make it cost way too much to build refineries (do a little research and find out when the last one was built in this country) Third, if you really like cheap gas, go to Venezula or Iran it costs about 40-50 cents a gallon. All that being said, as somone who actually works in the oil/gas industry....We have done this to ourselves! you cannot have it all, pick one: cheap fuel or clean enviorment. Yes we have plenty of oil, however due to enviormental regulations and people not wanting refinaries in their back yard, we must ship it out of the country to have enough refined petroleum. Plain and simple. However, feel free to emigrate to the countires mentioned if you hate it that much. I personally will live in freedom, pay $4 a gallon at the pump, and still pay considerably less then other free countires in the world such as EU countries were it can be as much as $10 a gallon. Not trying to bash anybody, just giving my version of it.

And just where are these millions of acres you speak of? You don't mean that we should turn our national parks into corn fields? How is that better for the enviorment? Second, you do relize that it takes more ethonal being combusted to equal the horsepower of gas, ergo it would require more gallons of ethonal then gallons of gas, which would require alot more acres then you are suggesting. Again just where are these millions of acres? What you are suggesting works for other countires who give lip service to enviormentalism but will put up a refiniary up anywhere.
Oh yea, there are engines that will get that kind of MPG....it's called diesel, but again due to you guessed it enviormental regualtions, their efficincy is reduced and burn more fuel due to things like EGR and Cat. converters. Not to mention the fact that LSD cost more and involves more to refine driving up the cost of what was once a waste product from refining.
The government has not screwed us over, because in a democracy we are the government! We the american people have screwed ourselves over by acting like little childeren thinking we can "have our cake and eat it too" Reality check... you can't in this case. Again, pick one: enviorment or cheap fuel.

most of the problem is due to the fact that new refineries haven't been built in over 30 years........too many tree huggers whining about a spider that might be affected. i remeber them saying how the pipeline running thru alaska was gonna kill all the carribu, guess what......they're thriving and the herds are bigger than ever. even these rugged animals like heat. so yeah, i'd have to agree, the government hasn't screwed us......it just more or less caved in and enabled the hand wringers (who seem to be the ones crying the loudest about gas prices now).

what kills me is when the prices hit that all time high, i saw a news story with some oil exec yucking it up, "ha ha ha, yeah, we made record profits for the quarter." right skippy, you made that off those of us who rely on that commodity to get back and forth to work to pay our bills, keep a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. now you got these bank clowns mucking everything up, and who has to bail em out?

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, 'What is Politics?'
Dad says, 'Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family, so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense. So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed The next morning, the little boy says to his Father, 'Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now. ' The father says, 'good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.' The little boy replies, 'The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep ***
