I have a 92 Ford Ranger, 2 whell drive that I would like to begin a massive makeover on. I would like to start by putting in a new engine and transmission. I would like some reccomendations from some of you experienced guys out there as to what I should drop in. In the end I would like to be able to still drive the truck on the streets but I also want to be able to tackle some dirt at a fairly reasonable speed. Just looking for a direction to run in as I am completely new to this. Thanks in advance......chris

What engine do you have now? And where do you live?

I'd suggest a 92 or newer 5.0 V8 or 01 or never 4.0 SOHC. Either should make you happy, depending on what you want. And either can be CA smog legal, if that is where you live.
