Dear Off-Road Race Enthusiasts:
A surge of excitement and enthusiasm is starting to mount since the announcement of what will prove to be the most exciting, as well as one of the most challenging off-road races ever held in the United States, the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! As always, with the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! the Best In The Desert will continue the tradition of outstanding efficiency in hosting the SAFEST, the BEST, the MOST FUN, the MOST ORGANIZED, and the MOST CHALLENGING OFF-ROAD RACING ADVENTURES ever held! This year, we are not only talking about the great TSCO “Vegas to Reno” but by popular demand the 2009 event will be a THREE-DAY, 1000-MILE STAGED EVENT, and will be called the TSCO “ VEGAS TO RENO” THE LONG WAY!!!
The TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! will no doubt stand alone as the brightest new star in the world of off-road racing in the United States. This unique event will provide unequaled opportunity that will attract a very special group of off-road racing adventures from all over the United States, those who are looking for a true “American Off-Road Adventure!” The BEST of the BEST in the world of off-road racing will be vying for that coveted overall win, to be known as the Best and the Fastest in the world of off-road racing, a Class Win! Who will win the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!!? That will be a title you will be proud of and carry with you forever!
In the business of off-road races, there is fierce competition by Best In The Desert to host new events, however, only one event will be a “STAND ALONE EVENT” the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! there is NO other event like it! Just think about this for a minute; a thousand mile, three-day staged off-road race inside the United States. WHERE else but Nevada, WHO else could host this awesome, one-of-a-kind event except Best In The Desert. If you like off-road adventure, if you would like to race on a challenging off-road racecourse, if you like long distance off-road racing, then you MUST come and participate in the challenging TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!!
With companies like Ford Motor Company, Maxxis Tires, VP Racing Fuels, FabTech, KC HiLites, KTM, Yamaha, and Banks Power, Best In The Desert has been very lucky to be involved with some of the BEST off-road racing sponsors in the industry. Along with our Title Sponsor of the Event, TSCO ~ Tube Specialties Company, there are three more outstanding companies that wanted to be a part of the great TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way! We are going to have day sponsors of the event, McMillin Race Day 1, KC HiLites Race Day 2 and Speed Technologies Race Day 3. Festivities each evening at CAMP ADVENTURE include live music sponsored by Speed Technologies, plus an impressive hospitality area sponsored by Red Bull, with their energy drink. There will also be a Beer/Root Beer Garden sponsored by Rebel Malting & Brewing from Reno. It is only possible with the support from these companies that we are able to promote a 1000-mile three-day staged event like this, unbelievable support!
Since our previous memorable staged events, the race into the millennium, the 2000 Nevada “2000”, the 2002 Nevada “1000” and the 2005 McMillin Nevada “1000” people have done nothing but talk about those events and ask when are we going to promote a staged event again. It’s very hard to do; emotionally, mentally and physically, but Best In The Desert is up to the challenge and we hope you are too! Remember, you need to race this event now because you never know when you will have the opportunity to do it again; 2009 is the year for a great three-day staged event! 2009 “VEGAS to RENO” The Long Way!!! - UPDATES!!!
1. Hotels & Motels – Enclosed is a hotel/motel reference guide for Las Vegas, Beatty, Tonopah, Hawthorne and Reno. We have heard that the hotel rooms in Tonopah and Hawthorne are SOLD OUT. Our suggestion to you is that you put your name on a waiting list but also consider CAMP ADVENTURE!
2. Apartments in Tonopah – There are over one-hundred apartments available in Tonopah for rent. We realize they are unfurnished but our participants have rented them in the past and have enjoyed the option; the cost is very reasonable. If you own cots and supplies it is a very good alternative. See the hotel guide for phone numbers
3. WHO NEEDS A HOTEL ROOM WHEN YOU HAVE CAMP ADVENTURE!!! – Come and enjoy the fun, friendship, excitement and camaraderie at CAMP ADVENTURE! There will be a very large area leveled and watered down for RV Camping. Bring your motorhome, your trailer, your camper, or your tent and come be a part of CAMP ADVENTURE! CAMP ADVENTURE will be in walking distance to the work area and impound area.
4. CAMP ADVENTURE!!! – Just to add to the FUN of CAMP ADVENTURE there will be a community fire pit at CAMP ADVENTURE each night so everyone will have a central area to talk about your day’s ADVENTURE on the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! We will have a live band sponsored by Speed Technologies and a Beer/Root Beer Garden sponsored by Rebel Malt & Brewing, and if you need an energy drink we will have plenty of those for you too, sponsored by Red Bull!!! Start planning now to be a part of the fun at CAMP ADVENTURE!!!
5. RV Rentals – Call Cruise America (702) 456-6666 or El Monte RV Rentals (800) 367-3687. You need to reserve your RV now because August is a busy month for RV rentals.
6. Amount of Support Crews Needed – You will be able to chase the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! with TWO (2) support trucks! Yes, you read it right, TWO (2) support trucks, with the exception of Day 3, there is one stationary pit, and three (3) trucks would be beneficial. Pitting will be very easy for your support crews!
7. There will be NO Pre-Run for the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! event. This will save you money for all not having to prepare for a pre-run. Again, in Best In The Desert, everyone is on the same playing field and this makes it fair for everyone.
8. PILOT TEAM – we will have a pilot team on motorcycles ride the course the day before each leg. This team will check for mile markers and ribbon and confirm the course is safe! Also, the GPS coordinates for the race will be given out 7 days prior to the event.
9. Stationary Work Area – You will receive sixty-minutes (60 minutes) FREE work time after every day of racing. You will have transfer time from the finish line to the work area and sixty-minutes (60 minutes) of free time to work on your race vehicle.
10. You will have one (1) DNF day. If you break down on any one of the three (3) days you will be allowed to fix your race vehicle and get back in the race, and take a time penalty for the DNF day. We want to give you every opportunity to finish the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!!
11. Time Trials – There will be a TIME TRIALS for start positions for TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The Long Way!!! for Class 1440 & Class 1500 on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.
12. Start Order – The Start Order for each day will be the order in which you finished the prior day, on corrected time, regardless of Class. Motorcycle and Quads will start each day first, then Cars, Trucks & UTV’s.
13. Car and Truck Pit Support – BF Goodrich will be providing Car and Truck Pit Support and Mountain Top Radio Relay, as well as an 18-wheeler support truck in the work area.

14. Application of Intent is enclosed in this mailing. If you send in your Application of Intent by May 1, 2009, you will be eligible for a special gift. You will receive the amount of gifts that correlate with the number of people on your entry form on May 1, 2009 only. Get your entry in now to receive the special gift!!! Draw for Start Positions – The draw for start positions for all Classes will be on July 30, 2009. Get your entry forms in for the draw and to ensure that your name, team members and sponsors are listed in the souvenir event program.
