Every off roader out there has certain perks they must have or meet in order to enjoy a good off road trip. For some its having that lucky hat they've had for years now. Others may want to make sure they wear the same pair of underwear they've worn the last 50 times they went off roading. And then there are the people who must have the right type of shocks in there truck in order for them to feel secure. In comes King, F.O.A., and Fox.

We'll start with King. King Racing Shocks have a reputation of being efficient, life lasting quality shocks. In fact in 2008, King Shocks was recognized for there excellence in off road racing by winning their third Pro-4 Championship and finishing second overall at the famed and historic SCORE Baja 1000. Kings Shocks are known to have special pistons which prevents breakage, heat treated stainless steel valving, hard anodized aluminum pistons, and heat treated steel shafts. King Shococks offers Race Series Shocks, Pre-Runner Shocks, Air Shocks, and certain packages which involve a full kit for those looking for the full deal.

Next F.O.A. Shocks come into play. Now F.O.A. just came out with a new pair of 2.0 Coil Over Shocks that are said to bury the competition. F.O.A. states that the 2.0 Shocks automatically come with a billet upper cap and lower rod end, hard chrome steel shaft and quick adjust preload threading to give you the most asked for shock features available. With all these features available, I'm not sure how the competition can survive. Then again we still haven't seen Fox Racing Shocks.

Fox Racing Shocks have a player called the 2.0 Emulsion Shock. Now this Emulsion Shock is no stranger to pain as it was built for that purpose. Emulsion shocks have tunable velocity-sensative valving, heat trreated shafts, clear cadmium body plating, dual stage system, and heat treated alloy steel spherical bearings. Once again Fox Racing Shocks aren't afraid of the competition and are willing to put a figth till the bitter end.

So out of the Shock giants, which would be your choice? Do you have a preference of one over another? Maybe you like non and prefer a different manufacturer that you want to share.

Hi, my name is Robert, I'm building my 04 z71 silverado when I return from this second tour of Iraq.  Now as to the shocks here really great info., What would you prefer for a first timer?  I've grown up to get the rite stuff the first time.  I do have a decent bugdet but need help for shocks.  I'm planning on getting a ProComp 6inch lift but want good shocks.  Any sugestions would help out alot.

Fox or Bilstein 2.0's would be a good shock for your truck. If you want to get really crazy  you could try and cram a 2.5" shock in there.
