My name is David I am 25 years old and I have always had a passion for driving on road but since I got my truck I love the desert even more. I have been in the automotive industry for years now and have been fortunate to drive everything from your Honda civics to your million dollar exotic cars. I love the industry I work in and enjoy my fellow employees.  I just put a new motor, supercharger, and built transmission in my truck and want to eventually put a custom long travel suspension kit on it but I don’t have the time or the money right now.  I have thought about getting sponsors but due to my work right now it is a slow process to get enough sponsors and have them put enough money into my truck or a new project truck. I was wondering what it takes to get yourself in the driver’s seat of an off road vehicle and eventually race? I do not know where to start at can anyone help me out here. Do I need classes, where to look for people who are looking for drivers, etc?   Thanks Dave

Money and talent.

Build a truck, win races, then market yourself. Nobody is going to "hire" a 25 year old rookie to drive their race truck. Sorry. If that were the case I would be a professional race car driver myself instead of a magazine schlub.

Or option B is buy your way in.

There are a few programs out there that will allow you to rent a race vehicle, such as a Trophy Lite, for a race. Or there are sometimes people that will sell a seat in a vehicle for a race. Usually the co-driver or third seat but its still seat time.

Either way you look at it, it costs money. Good luck! And remember us when your a star!

I agree with 4x4link. The best thing to do right now is attending off road races and observe and report. Learn the ways of the off road world and little by little push yourself towards until you get noticed or know someone from the inside.

I will try to keep you guys updated on the progress if i go any where with this. Thanks for all the help guys.

I am thinking i want to build a class 801 truck but i am still reading the rules and regulations on what is classified as a class 801 truck. I would love to turn my truck into my race vehicle it is 2wd 1500 2002 Chevy extended cab but due to the engine mods 4.8l to 6.0 still a stock chevy motor but upgraded. i dont know what class it might fall under. does any one know?

You would be better off starting in class 1450/1400/1500 (depending on series). They are sportsman classes.

By class 800 are you referring to Class 8 or Stock Full? And in what series?
