Electric Off Road Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, or Dodge Ram?

When it comes to fuel efficiency in trucks it's no doubt that upgrading your engine with an intake, exhaust system, or diesel comes to mind. However, the Obama Administration and California itself are pushing for stronger emission standards and more fuel efficiency out of vehicles. So this raises the question, how long are SUV, Jeeps, and TRUCKS going to be an option for consumers to buy?
The truth is that trucks are not know for there fuel efficiency. However that didn't stop Ford, Chevy, and Dodge from pushing there engines to the limits. The 2009 Ford F-150 got an amazing EPA of 21mpg while the competition both got an EPA of 20mpg's. We here that Ford is pushing for the Eco-Boost engine on the F-150 while Chevy has put the Hybrid System on the Silverado, not sure what Dodge has planned at this time.
While this is great news, once again I mention the Obama Administration and there new fuel standards coming up. Which brings me to the next point, will there ever be an electric truck out there and if so will off roaders respond? I mean certainly the engine will need to have major power in order for this to happen. Not to mention upgrades. How will having an electric engine stop off roaders from upgrading the engine for that extra kick of horsepower? So many questions arise that I don't have enough space to ask them all. What about you...what do you think about this matter?

If the manufacturers make a capable electric engine truck, people will wheel it.
Think about it, all your available torque available at zero rpm, that is a off roaders dream right there! It may not be right for high speed desert racing applications, but for slow speed rock crawling electric could be the next big thing.

Hmmm.....I don't know. I mean it's one thing to have an electric sedan but an electric truck? Sounds like a bad idea. I mean think about this, when it comes to off roading you carry a lot of electronics and weight. What will happen is your batteries die in the middle of the trip? And lets face it its not like there are electric plugs in the desert.

You would just need to be smart about it and not go out unless you have a full charge. And you could charge your rig off a generator back at camp.

Well yea that might take care of the charging but what about the weight. I'm sure the more weight the truck has the more "energy" it will waste. I seriously doubt they would be able to estimate the amount of time the battery will carry when it runs out due to weight distribution. I still don't think it's a good idea.

I don't know. I think people will be skeptical at first at an electric truck, specially off road fans and construction workers. I mean they would probably want to see it in action first before they even consider buying an electric truck.

Weight? What does it matter? Vehicles, including electric ones have a specific GVWR. This is what they should be basing it on. How is having a bed of camping gear any different than having six fat guys in the cab going out to dinner? I garuntee having two guys and some gear will weigh less than having 5/6 dudes in the truck going out on the town.
Owners of the trucks will have to be aware of the max weight and abide by it.
Not a problem. Whats next?

This is true. One thing though that would bug me in the end is no sound from an engine. Most people love hearing the sound of a roaring engine and with an electric engine that would now be gone.

Well they could always buy one of those speakers that has the sounds affect of the engine every time they step on the gas pedal, or would it be "electric pedal?" Anywho it wouldn't be the same but if people were open to the idea than maybe.

You would have to call it by it's technical name, the accelerator pedal.

Speakers?? That's a lame idea in a truck. Personally I don't think it would fly much with the enthusiast.

Well like I stated before...speaker would only be an option because I know many enthusiasts want the real deal and not come cheap compromise.
