If you are looking for a 2 day - 2 week 4X4 adventure...depending on how much time you have...you might consider Idaho's Magrudor Corridor.  This 4 wheel drive road runs between the Frank Church and Bitteroot Selway wilderness areas from Elk City, Idaho to Darby, Montana.

The road itself has no services and is about 130 miles, with 70 miles of it being widerness road from Red River Ranger Station to Magruder Ranger Station.  Take a couple of spares and make sure you are running high ply tires...I would suggest 10 ply.  The trip should be made between mid-July and early September due to the potential for bad weather.

You will not regret it.

Looks like a lot of fun! Why 10-ply tires though? Those pictures don't look too bad. I'd be comfortable with a good off-road tire on them.

There were several places along the road, and on the offshoots that were very rough and very rocky.  I had 6 ply tires and popped one.  I would recommend 10 ply so that you avoid that if possible, and then two spares in case you pop one anyway.
