Helo:
Off road everywhere and I couldn't find a single coment on the whole site on winches. I want an 8 or 9000 lb winch for general pulling and lifting to mount on my 78 Ford F250. On line stuff ranges in price from under $300 to over a thousand plus, in that wieght range. Brands are: Warn, Vortex, Superwinch, Smittybilt, to name a few. I'm more concerned with durability/safety/reliability over power for my money. Any sugestions or personal experience to share?

Thanks in advance

No personal experience, yet being in the automotive business I can
tell you that Warn seems to be more widely regarded as the one to
go with. Just try to stay away from the ones you mentioned in the
$300 range. In this case, I truly believe you will get what you pay for.
Good luck!

If it's durability/safety/reliability that you want then stick to companies like Warn, Superwinch, and MileMarker. Brands like Smittlybilt, TMaxx, Vortex, and the like are all decent products but we've seen more failures with the brands made 'overseas' than the American made brands which will cost you a bit more up front.

With that big of a truck you're going to want at minimum a 9,000lb winch. If you plan on getting it stuck in deep mud or precarious situations, not just general trail stucks or other vehicle recovery, I'd lean more towards a 10,000 or 12,000lb winch.
