Jeep To Get Into Pick Up World??

So it's been rumored for years that Jeep wanted to get into the pick up truck industry and in 2005 they came up with a concept called the Gladiator, pictured above. Now let me be the first to say that the truck/SUV industry has had its rough moment in the last couple of years with the economy hitting the bricks and gas prices going sky rocket which leads me to my opinion....I think Jeep should just stay away from truck industry PERIOD.
At this time Chrysler has some good momentum going on for it with the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the refreshed 300C is on the way. Chrysler has finally made some profit and the Ram is already a great competitor. So to add Jeep into the mix, in my opinion, is just asking for trouble.
Any thoughts? Would anyone actually buy a Jeep truck??

I think there would be a decent demand for a Jeep Truck. espically if it had a deisel/auto option and a decent tow capacity. Many jeepers would just like to have on to pull thier cj5 or whatever to the trail head. As long as it is competively priced, retains a solid front axle, and not underpowered i think it will do decent but dont expect any huge sale figures for a couple of its first few years. bottom line-I'd buy one, if they cost as much as a ranger. Wouldnt you?

I think it would do fair to well. It would be larger than a ranger, Colorado size, and be a reliable JEEP vehicle. Id say bein a midsize with a front solid axle would draw alot of costomers wouldn't you want a midsize Jeep pick up with a solid axle front supension and a deisel for the price of a top of the line ranger? I would and im sure others would as well. But it has to be priced right and have the offroad options and reliability that the Jeep logo is famous for. just dont expect a million sold or anything like that. Just my 2 cents.
