I have a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban LT 4X4. It currenly has some highway-type Goodyear Wranglers tires on it. I want to improve my off-road and winter traction. I also am thinking i will upsize the tires from 268/70/17 to 285/70/17 to increase clearance (they are supposed to fit). I have been looking at BF Goodrich All Terrain TKO and the Goodyear Silent Armor, but also NITTO Terra Grapplers, various Bridgestone Duelers, etc. I have owned the BFGs, other Wranglers and the Terra Grapplers before. My first choice is the BFGs but they seem a little overkill for a relatively sedate vehicle. I live in Minnesota a drive in deep snow alot and I offroad occasionally for hunting and fishing trips but no hard-core offroading. Will i get all the toughness, traction, durability from a different tire that might not be so heavy and out-of -character for the vehicle? i also want to keep decent mileage and ride. Thanks.

I know this is a little late on a reply, but I know down here in the south the Terra Grapplers seem to have a much shorter lifespan than the others. I think the most I've seen my buddies get out of them is around 30K miles. I ran the BFG all terrain TAs on my work truck, but have since gone to the BFG mud terrain (TK2 I think) and I love these. The mudders are a little rougher ride, but they are definitely a longer life tire than the Nittos. I've actually got the All Terrains sitting in the garage with less than 2K miles on them if you're interested.
