Bumper/Guard for 05 Silverado Z71

I just picked up a used 2005 Silverado 1500 Z71 a few days back and have been looking for some ideas for front bumpers.  The factory bumper is ok, but a noticeable dent in the middle where the license plate mounts up.  Since I already planned on replacing it, I figured why not go ahead and upgrade to something a little more substantial.  I've been looking everywhere for something like a pipe or heavy duty replacement like the Top Gun and Ranch Hand bumpers.  Problem is I don't really want to spend $1000 or more for something that overkill.  I'm not a hardcore offroader, I just use the 4wd for inclement weather really.  I don't really care if it has a grille guard, winch plate or shackle points.  Really the only thing I would like is to be able to use the factory fog lights.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a bumper that was a little more affordable that was a step up from the factory bumper.

Also, I work in the oilfield industry and have access to casing/pipe of different diameters.  Would it really be more affordable to just build my own?  

Build your own ! That heavy wall drilling tube will be much stronger than any of those aftermarket products. Just a bit of design and measurement and a little welding.
