i wonder.. if one could vacu form over the pattern a single layer of plastic... spray it with some adhesive... then drop a layer of kevlar cloth on it that has a layer of plastic film on one side to allow the vacu forming machine to pull the kevlar layer down onto the piece.. the plastic film removed.. any kinks cut out or folded down... more glue applied to the top of that layer. and a top sheet then vacuum formed on top of that.. that should make some fairly tough parts..
the idea of keeping the panels on and in place.. might appeal to the sponsors ..
a few decades ago... a friend told me of laminating honeycomb composite flooring scored from boeing surplus onto the sides of the cam an car he was the crew chief of.. he only had to wipe the tire scrubs off the side pods instead of replacing them when other cars got too close .. i would think that the aluminum honeycomb panels would also make good race truck floor boards.. and skin on the outside of the roll cage to prevent any debris from entering between the tubes of the roll cage in case of a rollover.. kinda like funny car is using titanium armor plates filling the cage openings to protect the driver..
just a few thoughts from a member from another forum on this site.. ( i also used to work for les martin. think back, vw race motors.)
