I have a 1984 Ranger (2 wheel drive) that I am considering cutting wieght on, and am trying to decide if it would be worth it. I would loose the bumpers and cut fenders back as much as possible. Maybe as much as just having the plastic inner fenders on the front. I was going to cut he entire outer fenders off of the back and cut the inners (in the bed) down to even with the wheel wells. Would leave that much as it could still be a usable truck.
The rub is that I would like to leave the cab as it is. I know that is where most of the pork weight us, so would it really be worth cutting bodywork if I left the cab alone?
How much weight would I really loose off of an already very light truck?
I swear I can feel an improvment in performance by unloading the high-lift jack and leaving the dog at home.
Info on the Ranger:
2.3L motor in very good shape, Pinto 2bbl Holly carb, RV cam, glass pack, 4 speed manual, 3:08 gears, 185/75R14 tires, regular cab bench seat, no a/c, no power steering,
